The rules require only that something (CB or OB) hit a rail (any rail), or enter a pocket, after ball contact. In the past, the rules did require a “new” rail, but that isn’t the case anymore.

dear dr. dave,
regarding #6…yes the cue hit the rail after contact, but it was the same rail it was previously frozen to. i was under the impression that if both balls were frozen to that side rail, one of them needed to find a NEW rail after contact. no?
